Tom Durham
Our bass singer, Tom Durham, sang in his first quartet when he was 12 years old. Tom has a smooth, low voice that will surely touch your heart when he sings. In 1991 Tom was one of the founding members of the Highest Honor Quartet. In 1999, after Karl Miller and Doug Ashton joined the group they decided to change the name of the group to the New Destiny Quartet. In addition to singing the bass Tom handles the managerial duties for the group which includes booking and a lot of other "stuff". When Tom is not singing he attends Great Lakes Christian Church in Warren, Michigan with his wife Laura.
Karl Miller
Sharing the duties of Lead and Baritone, Karl Miller will touch your heart with his outstandingly powerful voice. Prior to joining New Destiny in 1999, Karl spent much of his time acting in plays in the Detroit/Windsor area. Karl has an extensive background in theatre having held lead roles in a number of productions. Previous roles include Gaston in "Beauty and the Beast", Percy Blakeney in "The Scarlet Pimpernel", Father in "Ragtime", Father in "Children of Eden" and Pharoah in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". Karl has also held numerous roles in Christian plays such as "A Time for Christmas" and "How Great Thou Art". Karl is a graduate of Central Michigan University where he attended on a football scholarship and was a 3 time varsity letter winner. Karl is married and lives in Sterling Heights, Michigan with his wife Angela and his sons Jackson and Danny.
Wes VanWyk
Singing the tenor for New Destiny is Wes VanWyk. This young man has truly been blessed with a beautiful and anointed singing voice. Wes comes from a long line of gospel singers. His mom’s side of the family has a group called the "The Lafontaine’s". In 1977 Grandpa and Grandma LaFontaine and their four kids hit the road and started singing at churches all over the United States. Now their four kids have kids of their own, and they all travel and do concerts together (all eighteen of them). Being raised in a musical family, Wes started singing when he was very young, and could sing harmony when he was four. At nine, he started playing the saxophone in a band, and played for four years. A few years ago he started playing drums in church, and he now plays for his family’s group. Wes enjoys making music, singing, and volleyball. When Wes is not singing with New Destiny he attends Literal Life Tabernacle ("it’s not a big congregation, but if you want to be led into worship and hear the fresh word of God, it’s the place to be!") in Toledo, Ohio where he resides with his parents and younger sister Vanessa.
Doug Busam
Doug Busam has been singing in church plays and musicals since the age of six! A graduate of Zion Ministerial Institute, he has spent the last 20 years as a Worship Leader/Pastor, while still pursuing his drama and singing passions. He also has performed many times singing with his six younger siblings. His musical influences include Michael English, David Phelps and Larnell Harris. One of his favorite songs is also his heart's cry, "In Christ Alone", realizing we can do nothing without Jesus. When not working on hitting those high notes, Doug enjoys hitting the golf course, but his passion remains singing for his Savior.
